December Bike Ride

Tour of Britain 2020 Cornwall

Just got back from a Saturday morning cycle around St Cleer Parish. Only 10 miles but plenty of gradient!

Whilst Eddy Merckx the Tour De France winner suggestion don't buy upgrades ride up grades probably still holds good for the super fit, maybe it's no wonder that our local farm shop and cafe Trevallicks does such a good trade in E bike hire!

Anyway a steady climb through Tremar and St Cleer to the top at Minions and back across Foredown. Pretty foggy up here today with the sheep coming out of the mist but still a great ride.

Cornwall provides some tremendous opportunities for cyclists of all types and experience and we have been a popular venue for cycle tourers for many years. As well as hot showers we can provide wash down facilities for your cycle, undercover storage and access to local cycle dealers if you encounter any technical difficulties. Most importantly a friendly welcome at the end of what will probably have been a tough day!

Each year Fursdon Farm has been a regular stop for many brave souls participating in Le Jog ( Lands End to John O'Groats) Or the End to End as some call it in addition to a number of other endurance routes.

Alternatively there are a number of off road trails within easy reach. The Camel Valley Trail is hugely popular with families with options of starting at Bodmin or Wadebridge. The Cornwall Coast to Coast trail is an 11 mile trail linking the historic harbours of Portreath and Devoran. This can be extended by joining the 7.5 mile Great Flat Lode trail through the old mining areas of Camborne, St Day and Redruth. These are just a few of the trails in Cornwall.

To the east the Drakes Trail offers a great 21 mile ride from Plymouth to Tavistock with fantastic views of Dartmoor. Again opportunities to extend this ride for those enthusiastic enough to take on the challenges of more challenging rides around Princetown.Cycling in Cornwall

For experienced mountain bikers the popular Cardinham Woods offers the blue grade Bodmin Beast with two red grade loops off of it in the form of Dialled-in-Dave and Hells Teeth. The Lanhydrock Cycle Hub just across the road provides a variety of shorter trails and is excellent for children of all ages.

On the 6th of September 2020, Cornwall will host the Grand Depart Stage of the Tour of Britain race for the first time which will see some of the world’s best cyclists racing from Penzance over 170km to a sprint finish in Bodmin. The stage’s route will also visit St Just, St Ives, Hayle, Camborne, Pool, Redruth, Falmouth, Penryn, Truro, Newquay and St Austell.

Fursdon Farm is perfectly placed to allow easy access to both the Grand Depart Stage and also Stage 2 on Monday the 7th September which will start in the new community of Sherford just outside Plymouth in the South Hams and finish in the city of Exeter.
Whatever your cycling interest we look forward to welcoming you to Fursdon Farm in 2020
